For those out of the loop: Anora follows a young sex worker in Brooklyn’s Brighton Beach who gets a shot at a Cinderella story with the impulsive son of a Russian oligarch. Spoiler alert: It’s not a fairy tale. It’s loud, chaotic, heartbreakingly funny, and strangely tender.

The dialogue is pure Sean Baker: natural, overlapping, and often improvised. The middle third of the film turns into a frantic, slapstick-noir chase sequence that is wildly different from the first act. It’s stressful, but in a good way.
