Then he realizes: the samovar has been sweating uranium salt residue. That residue is hygroscopic. He scrapes it with his knife, mixes it with the GRU team’s abandoned canteen water (freezing point depression), and creates a makeshift endothermic reaction that pulls the base metal down to -5°C.
